Carla's Space: Powerful Girls Like Me

Image of Annie

Hi, I'm Annie!

I'm 12 years old and in the 6th grade. For as long as I can remember, my parents have always encouraged me to get outside and be active with my friends. When I was younger, my brother and sister ran track. I went to all of their track meets, and when I got tired of sitting on the sidelines, I joined the track team too! Now, I like to run, and play basketball and soccer. One of my favorite things to do is to take a ball and run up the field with it.

Before a game or meet, I always stretch and do a few warm-up strides to get myself motivated. Keeping myself in shape helps me perform better, and feel better all around. I've even participated in the AAU Junior Olympics for two years!

Healthy Tip from Annie:
Don't limit yourself — try a variety of outdoor activities! Find something that you really enjoy, and do it regularly with your friends!

Annie loves running because:
  • She has made lots of friends on the track team
  • It is a one-man sport, and she likes to try to beat her best time
  • It makes her feel energized and healthy

Get outdoors and build strong bones like Annie! It's easy ¾ grab a ball and a group of friends for a pick-up game of soccer or basketball. Or go for a jog around your neighborhood instead of watching tv. And, don't forget Annie's favorite snack — blueberry yogurt — for lots of fuel.

Some of Annie's favorite foods are:
  • Yogurt
  • Her mom's lasagna
